Agora Bread & Bakery was born from grief, built through Greece, and baked into existence in a small kitchen in Fargo, North Dakota. I was taking care of someone I loved beyond measure when I saw — really saw — the way food is supposed to feel. Real ingredients. Slow hands. A table worth gathering around. I came home and I started making everything — focaccia, sourdough raised by Auguste my French starter, cookies from my mother's recipe, seasonal breads and little cakes and shortbread — all of it from scratch, all of it with love. Named for the ancient Greek marketplace where community always happened. This is the gathering place.
My name is Lex. I'm 26 and I grew up waking up to the smell of something baking.
My mom was a single mother of two. We didn't always have a lot of time together, but we almost always had food. That's what I remember. That's where I learned that a meal is never really just a meal.
I went to Greece this year and came home changed. Came home to take care of her. Stood in her kitchen and started baking because it was the only thing that felt like the right language. Agora Bread & Bakery is everything she taught me about love — made into something I can put in your hands.
